Vapiano

Yup, went to have lunch at Vapiano's yesterday!

Was kind of proud of how I did my hair with a small dab of wax and one scrunch (:

It was actually better than I expected. Most likely because of how people told me, "it wasn't as good as they expected." Makes sense, right?
Maybe I won't go through this as much, because I think the most of you had been there already. It'd been a while since they opened.

I'm just not very fond of the way how you get the electronic card and que up or your food. It kind of felt like a fast food restaurant except you have to wait longer, because they cook it right away.

But I liked how they served us some pizza during that. (: Tomato & basil

Service was wonderful.

Finally got our dish and went up the stairs.

BIRDNEST. Teehee!

RUCOLA RAVIOLI
ravioli with rocket and ricotta, cherry tomatoes and pine nuts

CARBONARA
onions, bacon and egg in a cream sauce

I had the ravioli, and overall I think the dish was tasteful and had good seasoning too. Loved how they placed some cherry tomatoes there, and so the acidity and mellowness of the fruit really stood out from the rich flavours of the dish!

The downside was probably the small portions they serve, because I don't see how guys could get full from that, when I only felt content after the meal.
Pricing was average for the experience, maybe just right.

Okay, I have to go prepare for today now! ^^"

ps. Wasn't able to sleep much again yesterday ):

I am soooo

so so so so so hopeless at using the computer T_T
Currently trying to make a better looking page, except it took me two hours to try and figure out how to rotate a picture.

I still haven't figured it out yet.

This will probably take days, or maybe soon, if I can get my hands on photoshop.

But then I will have to figure out where to download that.

Cocoawoo

Sorry about that yesterday guys, but now it is working! So here is an early post to make up for that! :)

ANYHOWWW, I went to deliver my cake!
(Okay, Jono only JUST got back home and it's 6:45. Jesus.)

I need some feedback!

Somehow it is taking agesssss to upload these photos today.

Heard about pretty good reviews for this chic-style cafe called Cocoawoo. It is only down at Elizabeth Arcade! (Turn left once exited)

The only downside is that it is a rather small place. The biggest group you can have is eight people, unless you don't mind extra ones sitting on the sides by themselves.

The table you see here is actually the only big one they have. All other ones are the kind of sittings were you face the wall.

Pretty cool chairs.
ANYWAYS, after hearing positive reviews on their affogato, I decided to order one.
All their drinks and pastries are only about $5!!!
The only disappointed thing was that they took out all of the dessert sets on their web menu. The reason why I actually wanted to go there :(

So..this affogato is basically just a hot Italian coffee beverage, exept mine was CHOCOLATE affogato ;D, so I guess you can say it was like mocha?
It is served with a gelato with the flavor of your choice, and in this case, of course I picked the vanilla bean!

I believe Karen ordered a hazelnut latte. Not sure.

And Zoe got the best one out of all three!
An ice chocolate looking like this for only $4.50 or something! Well, below $5!!

I love how that's both a straw and a long spoon.

Afterwards, we went to sing-k. Pretty typical.

And that, is how you do it. (:
Maybe I'm kinda too mature to jump up and down the sofa now, which I did last time with Chae.

Caramalized Mocha. I think I would prefer a normal mocha, though it was still a decent drink.
Then we just went to watch Chae get her hair curled for a while and people left pretty early to go home.
I stayed for a bit to read their magazines, then I left and bummed around at the city.
As well as to check whether or not I booked for formal makeup, because I forgot ._.
It turned out that I did!

Then I met up with my auntie at the Valley to have dinner, since Jono wasn't coming home anyway.
I loveeeeeeeeeeee Thai food.
Actually I love any food, except Chinese is usually the last that I would pick. It is flavoursome and delicious, but it gets a bit too oily most times and make me feel sick.

I like how the lady took out what looked like a toolbox, but appeared to be a special seasoning kit with vinegar, fish sauce, chili and sugar!
It was for the beef noodle soup.

A very divine chicken green curry it was. (:

Well, that was my day, and I shall leave you guys now to wash and etc, because I only just woke up!
Going out today (:

Dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

It keeps saying error when I try to upload the photos.
And going out tomorrow too, which means I will have A LOT to blog in one day tomorrow since I miss out today *_*

SORRYYYY

Reminiscene

I dreamt of falling into deep space again, but this time I fell from the mountains down to a tree-filled jungle. ._.
My body got caught up in between the branches and I begged this insensitive purple bird to save me. It only chortled loudly and shake the branches repeatedly until I fell again.
Second nightmare of the night, so I guess my subconscious fears made me refuse to sleep again, yet I was able to try and recall happy memories for a few hours to feel more comforting at four o'clock early in the morning.
And so, somehow I decided to share and reminisce to you all what a wonderful childhood I had, and how it made me the person I am today.

I can remember things pretty well dating back to... maybe when I was three? Anyhow, I recall things and differences in a way that I compare what I have now, to what I had back then. Movements and transitions told me that times during my preschool life was much different. Financial wise. It gradually improved as I grew older, and having to witness my the hard work and commitment that my parents put into the family, I simply felt that there were nothing more I could ask for.

But let me make it clear, we weren't poor to begin with, at least I wouldn't say we were. I was born here in Brisbane, but that didn't leave me a single memory of this place as I was only one when we moved back to Hong Kong. My dad finished his studies at UQ and both my parents were busy looking for jobs. Though we lived together at my grandparents' small unit, which consisted two rooms and a single bathroom to share between the six of us, we still had three full meals to fill our stomachs. Our family was always warm. It had to be, when everyone was cramped into such little space. (:

Kids in the neighborhood would always play downstairs in between the building, but I was never allowed to go and hang out with them. Since the local area we lived in wasn't very developed, my grandmother would always keep me indoor when my parents are at work, while grandpa would take me around whenever he could and bought me snacks wherever we went. I would always lay on his lap and watch the horse-racing events with him on the television, while he patted my hair. He would also take my to the neighboring playgrounds and pushed me on a swing.
My mum was a teacher and so every Saturday morning, she would take me to the local family restaurant and eat breakfast there. One of the most vivid memory was that she would always cut out the yolk of the sunny side up egg and fed it to me.
I never liked runny egg yolks, but I didn't tell her and swallowed it every time. This is because deep down, I felt the most happy when she gave me all what she believed was the best.

Sometimes, my dad had days taken off too. On those days he would bring me to the local markets and buy fresh produce for dinner that night. I remember how he would piggy back me around because he knew I didn't like walking on that slippery floor and getting my shoes dirtied. Oh yes, I miss those days when we didn't have a maid to buy it for us. Strangely, people there would always ask my dad whether I was mixed and where my mother was from. Another vivid memory was when I was given a handful of cherries from a marketer at a fruit stand and I placed them into my dad's mouth one by one while he piggy backed me. The cherries were what I believed was the best at that moment, like how mum gave me those egg yolks every time.

Half way through my preschool school years, my parents had saved enough for us to move out and live independently from my grandparents. I changed from the local nursery-like school to a proper girl one. It was so strict that we weren't allowed to grow long hair!! Anyways, even though we moved, grandpa and grandma would still always come and visit me after school.
Grandpa was always the one to pick me up from my school bus and he would always buy me a soft serve when we walked home. (:

Anyways, after that year we would always move around from one place to another.
We were moving further and further away from my grandparents, but we still saw them every Sunday at church. All together, we moved nine times from when we lived with them to when I was in grade two. I got into the art school too, which I went three times a week. (:
That year, my dad took the risk of starting his own clinic with a friend, and so money became strict on us. Going to my art school was reduced from three times a week to once per week. Even though it caused a great amount of money, my parents still put in great effort in supporting me for my love of art. Even though there were many changes throughout that year, we would still stay tight together like before, and it only made the family warmer.

Dad's business also gradually became more stable, but that was when the SARS outbreak happened and caused the financial crisis as people panicked. My parents decided that it was best to send Jono here, but I was still too young to follow. Since he was my only sibling, having him gone for a year was like having a best friend taken away. My parents and teachers realized a change in me and in the end, my parents decided to let me come here even though they weren't content to let me go when I was nine.

AND THAT'S how I met you all. (:

So my childhood was family restaurants, markets and neighboring playgrounds.
Yet those things only made me realize how lucky I am today and how hard my parents had worked to provide everything that I have now.

Jacob will never have a chance to witness that!
And once again, thank God for giving me such a wonderful childhood.

I will work even harder to strive for success and give back to my parents what they had given me. (:

ps. I'm sorry if this is a bit rush in the end, I'm feeling tired.

BIRD NEST.

After taking everyone's suggestions in consideration, as well as the person who ordered it, we decided to go for CHOCOLATE.

So here I bring you...

THE ULTIMATE

JESSICA BIRD NEST.
(It is a chocolate sponge cake with choco cream!)

My original idea was to have a chocolate bird nest in the middle of a round cake, but I thought why not try square this time! :D
At first there weren't any spiky chocolate pieces around, nor the diagonal white lines across the cake.

I really love the way that ganache drips on the sides

I was nervous to try this at first, but lucky I got a hand of it =D!

Dislike how you can feel the hot air when piping out chocolate balls. It was kind of hot to hold, because I don't have a proper piping bag. Made mine out of baking paper. :/
At first I was also going to make some marshmallows to place into the 'bird nest', but I guess it was kind of late and I was getting tired.

Strawberry roses still looked pretty good (=

I kind of wish I had a better camera, or maybe better photography skills :(

I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Hopefully, they will like my cake. (=

Continue

ANYWAYS,
that night we had dinner with family friends at the new Shanghai Restaurant at Market Square. It wasn't very good, though I must say they did a pretty good job at their indoor decoration. I think the place was called 'Taste'. Opened next to the butchery.

I generally do loveeeeee northern Chinese food, but this place was just a big disappointment.
The fried rice and noodles were very poorly seasoned, with the most ridiculously limited amount of ingredients.
Their Seafood fried rice had no seafood.
Shanghai stir fry noodles only had noodles and tiny pieces of green vegetables.
The dishes were a whole let down compared to the grand-like opening.

Dishes like this had always been my favourite. It's a pan-fried bun with pork filling. The surprise is that soup bursts from inside when you bite into it. You can burn yourself if you're not careful!

Sadly, it was shameful how they could used the exact same filling for the the juicy bun, juicy dumplings and even the WO TIE (pan-fried dumpling).
Only the outside crust of the three dishes were different. Imagine eating three very dry dishes like that!

Well here's one thing that actually tasted a bit different and not as bland:

I wouldn't even say that their food is palatable at all, taste-wise.
Just...not acceptable at all. (I still can't get over their fried rice ._.)

Well, you can see their special dumpling-skin-rolling skills on display.

My grandfather can do ten times faster ._. ...

-Strongly not recommended.-
...
...

SEXY POSE.

Tehehehe, BYE-BYE.

Haircut

Okay...So I said I'll post about my haircut, but I think many had probably seen the photos already.
But here you go again~

ANYWAYS, Ryota Hair.

I took these photos from their website, because they kept my bag for me.

It was my first time there.
And all the female hair stylists wore Yukatas! >u<
I loveeeee their garden-like interior design.

Lovelovelove
I like how the this path leads you from the entrance to the front desk.

They picked the senior stylist, Natsumi. She looks much younger in real.
And OMGGGGG, the director has a super super super CUTE dog too~!!!

LOLLY~ ><
So cute how he bobs around under your feet.

ANYWAYS, the product:

I made it my display picture on Facebook (:"

Overall, the experience was pretty good, because I think the staffs there put in a lot of effort into everything they do. Had a great time communicating with them in Japanese too. Credits go to Mrs Dewar. ^^
brb, I'll come back and blog.

The Good Beginning....slash my Nightmare marathon

Yes..a nightmare marathon last night ._. = outbreak
Dreamt of the same thing again.

I had a pretty good day yesterday, so I have no idea why I dreamt of that.
Maybe because I'm feeling insecure lately. I didn't do anything and I sacrificed... a lot. Not exactly a lot, but what meant a lot to me. It seems like what I sacrificed isn't worth what everybody gets now. As for myself, I knew I'd get nothing. So ye, waves in my feelings. :/

Actually, hold on. I dreamt of my facebook password last night too, so I'm gonna try it now.
...
...
Okay, it didn't work. I dreamt that it was 'elemgee'.
LOL. What is an elemgee?

Well, told you it's a nightmare marathon. *sigh

BUT ANYWAYS, time to stop being so pessimistic, because yesterday was truly a GOOD BEGINNING.

Before my hair cut.

I still looked like a girl.
..
..
Okay I'm like looking into the mirror now. It's what Jacob will probably look like in 10 years time. This might sound weird..but I'm actually..

..pretty hot as a guy.

I think I'm crazy now.

ANYWAYS, yesterday I went to the city to get my haircut and then had OSHIN for lunch with friend.
We ordered a sushi set and a lunch obento to share:

(We picked tempura and teriyaki chicken)
Overall it was pretty good, but I don't think the taste was worth the price.
Both dishes were $24.50 each.
The sashimi were neither fresh nor off, but it left no bad aftertaste like the ones you get from eating canned fish.
However, the scallops tasted rather luscious for the way it looked.
So I'd say the freshness of the food was somewhere in between? Maybe 2.5/5.
The bento box didn't look very appealing, a bit empty, but the chicken was succulent enough to pass and so was the tempura that was crunchy and not over-fried.
Overall, I would only recommend OSHIN if you have a special occasion, because the night time dining experience I had there was better. Except it could be a bit over priced as it was about $40-$50 per head with a sufficient amount of food. So yer, maybe try it if you're bored enough to. (:"

ANYWAYS, we went to Botanical Gardens afterwards to bird feed and let our stomachs exercise.

One birdy.

I always have these in my bag.

TWO birdies.

MORE birdies.
(My grandma would be very happy to know that her granddaughter can lure so many pigeons with one cracker. LOL, jokes.)

Okay, there were more, but I couldn't capture them all, while sitting down (:

Big Bad.
We made a trail of crumbs which they followed too (:

We stayed there until a Noisy Miner attacked us.
It CHASED us ._. So frightened that I could have tripped on my heels.

Bye bye, birdies.

I think this post had been pretty long, and I'm tired now. I'll blog about the haircut and where I ate at night later on. (:"
SO YE, see you later!
